This special girl is going to be a Christmas gift...for the owner...to herself! This is the pose and a view of it "hanging" thanks to Photoshop as it will look as a painting. This curly girl is just so beautiful...inside and out.

There is nothing like a surprise portrait at Christmas time. This English golden did not disappoint. It went to a very hard to surprise recipient. Oh, yes. He was surprised.

December 5, 2010 Through the website I meet some terrific pup owners and pups. We share stories and pictures. This one was just too wonderful not to share. These are Nashville pups at five months old showing the world the true definition of "whippet love."
There's nothing like an unveiling! This is Harley who set the record for me on number of photos taken in a session. I took 600 photographs in order to capture this pose. Here's what his owners had to say after settling in with the painting for a couple of days: We love, love, love the painting. It is hanging in the living room behind the red chair. When you walk into the house, Harley is there as big as life. I can’t thank you enough for this wonderful gift. We visit it all the time and catch something new each time. I love your placement of his paw print tag. Creating a piece of art based on our dog was a fabulous experience from tip to tail. No pun intended !
November 11, 2010 Even though these pups have all been regally immortalized on canvas, we wouldn’t want you to think they weren’t “real” dogs! Presenting Haley, Riley and George, aka Hot Dog with Mustard and Ketchup.
October 28, 2010 Many of you know of my involvement with the Charlotte Humane Society. For those of you who don't, here is some recent news. I donated a specially created commission as the featured raffle item at the annual fund raising event, Ties and Tails Gala, a black tie bring your dog extravaganza at the Westin in downtown Charlotte. It was first previewed at the pre-gala party hosted by Shain Gallery that represents my work in Charlotte. Here is the painting Passages, 30x40 Acrylic on canvas:
It is based on an actual rescue, Stella, here in Winston-Salem. I incorporated a door to represent the constant coming and going nature of the world of rescue. I made it red for good energy. I wanted it to be about the questions 1) Is this pup sitting on the doorstep of its "forever home? or 2) Is this pup waiting for rescue? What do you think? The winner of the raffle was Terry Richardson, Owner Little Friends Pet Sitting 1516 Kennilworth Avenue Charlotte, NC 28203 terry@littlefriendspetsitting.com LittleFriendsPetSitting.com Terry was so thrilled. She now has it hanging in her den facing a street side window. She shared that you can actually see it from the street! I love big art! I created another piece of Stella at the same time and her owner fell in love with the piece and added it to her art collection. Be warned if I ever ask to use your dog as a model! Here is Stella in another incarnation: Stella, Best in Show, 24x48 Acrylic on canvas
I was inspired recently to paint some racing whippets and thanks to the generosity of Lindsey Lobree who let me use some of his fabulous racing images, I have completed the work. I've never wanted to encourage Greyhound racing and have been hesitant to paint whippets with muzzles, fearing that people would confuse the whippets for Greys. But, I've met so many avid straight track and oval folks who love their sport of whippet racing (NOT FOR GAMBLING) that I was excited to do the following painting. I'm donating a print of this work for 2011 WRA/NOTRA Nationals sometime in the 2011.

September 3, 2010 Recently, an email popped into my mailbox with this attachment. The client said that she was working at home and saw an irresistible "Kodak" moment. It's an email like this that brings to mind a quote I often use when describing how I feel about my work: "Great dogs bringing good people together." By the way, can you find three greyhounds in this picture? Haley on her luxe bed, Haley immortalized on canvas (24x48) and a mystery guest...whom I suspect is a lucky foster.
You have to love those labs and goldens. Here are three pieces I've recently finished.

What better place to hang your pups' portrait than in the kitchen! These are Haley's...the greyhound above, brothers.
The photo session adventures continue! Portraits are on their way!
I realized about half way through this session that I had been mistaken about this pup's age. I thought I had understood he was three or so...no way...he was 16 months! I took 600 pictures to "capture" this energy.
This Giant Schnauzer could really give "the eye."
Here is the final piece, Cooper, 24x48
These two Portuguese water dogs had no trouble posing. Of course now that they have a White House legacy to live up to...no wonder! Here is the final: 36x36
This is an example of the perfect hanging location for a whippetart portrait..
Remembering Pepper
Pepper had the honor of being my first cat. He taught me that you don't "pose" a cat. You follow him around until he lets you into his secret world.
Pepper 15x30, acrylic on canvas
As of June 2010, Pepper is no longer with us. His portrait hangs as a reminder of all the love he gave and received during his 21 years.
